Anita Carr President

Anita served as the Treasurer and Membership Coordinator of the Ontario Straw Bale Building Coalition (OSBBC) from 2004 through 2007. She designed and general contracted the construction of the largest two storey load bearing straw bale home in the world. She has provided design consultation to two straw bale home owners and was the design brains behind the OE Small House and the OE Type 1 and Type 1A houses.

Anita and her daughters Melissa and Lily are Métis and trace their roots back to the Gitksan (Gitxsan) Nation in BC. Anita's Great, great, great, great Aunt Chief Fanny Johnston of Gitsegyukla lead the Skeena River Rebelion.

Hank Carr Vice President Operations

Hank served as the Vice President and Membership Coordinator of the Ontario Straw Bale Building Coalition (OSBBC) from 2004 through 2007. He has participated in the construction of three straw bale houses and has taught more than 50 people how to build with straw bales. Many of those people have gone on to build straw bale buildings of their own.

Hank is a computer network professional by trade and has 18 years experience working for the federal government. He has managed budgets in excess of $10 million and spent five years managing the telecommunications portion of six bare concrete commercial renovations ranging from 12,000 square feet to 250,000 square feet. As the telecommunications consultant he earned the respect and the trust of Public Works and Government Service Canada and the consulting engineers. Hank had a seat at the table at all project and construction meetings. His team of 20 employees and contractors worked along side the other trades on the projects and were involved at every stage of construction and met every project deadline.

As the lead straw bale construction instructor and on-site straw bale construction supervisor for Organic Environments Hank will ensure that the straw bale portion of your build goes smoothly.

Ze'ev Kalin Vice President Business Decelopment

Ze'ev Kalin has been working as an environmental consultant since graduating from Queen's University at Kingston with an MBA specializing in Environmental Studies in 1991. His prior experience was in the areas of marketing, communication and business development and he graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Ottawa With an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, 1998. From 1991 to 1995 Mr. Kalin specialized in researching and promoting the diversion of construction and demolition waste from landfill. Since that time he has expanded into other areas of the built environment, using his business experience to bring environmentally friendly alternative technologies, both leading edge and centuries old, to the mainstream. Mr. Kalin has also used his communications skills to write articles hat raise awareness of environmental alternatives. A client once told him "You take vast amounts of data and turn it into useful information." Immediately realizing the potential benefits that popularizing straw bale building represents: using a locally produced building material that is renewed at least once a year; reducing energy consumption; increasing farm income; making houses more affordable; etc. Mr. Kalin joined Organic Environments to take responsibility for Business Development and Marketing Communications.
